Flugtag
Red Bull’s weird and wacky flying event, Flugtag, was coming to Auckland for the first time in its history and the brand wanted to ensure it made a splash.
Flugtag, the German word for 'flight day', was hosted at Wynyard Quarter and as the translation suggests, Flugtag is a day of flying – well, kind of. Over 30 teams switched Aeroplane mode on and launched homemade flying machines off a six-metre-high ramp, attempting to fly as far as possible before landing in the ocean below.
Some crafts fly, but most flop, making it an entertaining spectacle for event attendees. We helped drive more than 15,00 attendees down to the Viaduct making it one of the biggest public events to kickstart summer – and best of all, it’s completely free to the public.
Our robust media relations campaign showcased the contestants, told the history of Flugtag, and got Kiwis to believe they could fly.
We hit every major news outlet in the build-up to the event and hosted reporters from NZ Herald, The Project, 1News, Newshub, and more on the day. We generated 2.2 million in total PR reach and best of all, Kiwis came down in their droves to catch a glimpse of Red Bull’s Flugtag!
